Crocheted Placemats & Coasters

Posted by

I needed new placemats & coasters so decided to crochet some. I found this pattern by Ink Flamingos – Grit Stitch Placemat & Coaster Set but it is in DK and I wanted something a bit thicker so I used Stylecraft Special Aran in Dark Brown instead.

Obviously that meant the number of stitches and rows needed to be changed. My placemats needed to be approx 30cm x 23cm and for this I started with 47 chains (44+3). After the first row of chains I did 28 rows. For the coasters I wanted them to be approx 11cm square. So I started with 15 chains (12+3). After the first row of chains I did 12 rows.

The only other change I made was to do 4 SC in the corners of the border instead of 3. I think it was because I used Aran, I needed the extra stitch to stop the corners curling.

I got 4 placemats and 4 coasters out of 3 x100g balls.
