Simple Edging for a Granny Square (Tutorial – written instructions & video)

(UK terms)

I designed this edging to perfectly fit a granny square. It doesn’t matter how many rows you have.

V-stitch = 1 treble, 1 chain and 1 treble in the same space

Join your yarn to any space (except a corner space) between granny clusters. Start with 3 chains or a standing treble crochet. Chain 1 and work another treble crochet in the same space. Do 1 V-stitch in every space. In every corner do 1 V-stitch, 1 chain & 1 V-stitch. When you get back to where you started join with a slip stitch to the top of the standing treble or the 3rd chain.

Into the 1 chain space in the middle of the V-stitch work 1 double crochet, 1 half treble, 1 treble, 1 half treble and 1 double crochet . Slip stitch between the 2nd double crochet of this V-stitch and the 1st double of the next V-stitch. Continue like this all along the edge. At the corner you have 2 V-stitches with a 1 chain space in between. In the 1st V-stitch work 1 double crochet, 1 half treble and 1 treble. In the 1 chain space work 3 trebles. In the 2nd V-stitch work 1 treble, 1 half treble and 1 double crochet. When you reach your starting point join with a slip stitch between 2 V-stitches.
