Skills required:
Granny square (see my Youtube video here)
Continuous join (see my Youtube video here)
Treble crochet
Back post treble crochet
Instructions are given in UK terms.
These instructions make a 63cm square blanket. You can easily adapt to a larger size blanket by making more squares. Obviously you would need more yarn than is stated here.
Materials required:
2 x 100g balls of DK yarn (I used Stylecraft Wondersoft in Rapunzel – about 170g used)
1 x 100g ball of contrast DK yarn (I used Stylecraft Special DK in Grey – about 70g used)
4mm hook, sewing needle & scissors
How to make the blanket:
Start by making 25 x 5 round granny squares. Then join them with the contrast yarn using the continuous join method. When you reach the final corner don’t break the yarn but carry on with the next round. Chain 3 and 1 treble stitch in the 1st corner space. Then make a treble in every treble stitch across. When you reach a join you need 1 treble in the corner space, 1 treble in the join and 1 treble in the corner space. At the corners of the blanket you need 2 trebles, 2 chains and 2 trebles. At the last corner make 2 trebles, 2 chains and join to the top of the starting 3 chains. Break yarn. Then with the main colour of the granny squares (in my case Rapunzel) start in any corner with a standing treble or 3 chains. Make 1 more treble in the corner. Make a back post treble in every treble across until you get to the corner. In the corner make 2 trebles, 2 chains and 2 trebles. Then carry on with back post trebles to the next corner. In the last corner make 2 trebles, 2 chains and join to the top of the 3 starting chains or the standing treble.
