The Leta Blanket

Posted by

I made this blanket using a DK yarn and a 4mm hook.

The yarns I used are Stylecraft Special DK in Black, Graphite, Grey, Silver & White. For a 100x140cm blanket I used 2x100g balls of each colour and only had 30-40g left of each colour.

Skills required:

  • Granny square (see my YouTube video here)
  • Join as you go method (see my YouTube video here)
  • Treble Crochet (UK terms) (see my YouTube video here)

STEP1: Crochet 5 x 3 round granny squares and join them together as you go in a strip.

STEP 2: Work 6 rounds of treble clusters as in a granny square. However on the first round, in order to keep the stitch count correct so future squares are lined up, you need to do the following: Where the small squares join, you have the 2 corner holes close together. You need one cluster in these 2 holes, not one in each. To do this I did one treble in the first hole, started the 2nd treble in the same hole (yarn round hook, insert in hole, yarn round hook, pull hook through hole, yarn round hook and pull through first 2 loops on hook, leaving 2 loops on hook) Then start a 3rd treble in the 2nd hole in the same way then yarn round hook and pull through all loops on hook to finish the treble. Finally make another treble in the 2nd hole. This makes one cluster across the 2 holes which is a little bit fatter than a normal cluster. (If you need to see this in a video I made one here)

STEP 3: Add 3 x 3 round granny squares to each short end as in the picture below.

STEP 4: Work 6 rounds of granny clusters.

STEP 5: Add 11 x 3 round granny squares to each of the long sides as in the picture below.

STEP 6: Work 6 rounds of granny clusters.

STEP 7: Add 9 x 3 round granny squares to each short end.

STEP 8: Work 6 rounds of granny clusters.

STEP 9: Add 17 x 3 round granny squares to each long side.

STEP 10: Work 6 rounds of granny clusters.

STEP 11: Add 15 x 3 round granny squares to each short end.

STEP 12: Work 6 rounds of granny clusters.
