For this blanket I am using Special DK by Stylecraft in these colours:
- Lipstick
- Tomato
- Spice
- Saffron
- Sage
- Storm Blue
- Denim
- Grape
- Parma Violet
I started off my squares with square 173 in the book 200 Crochet Blocks by Jan Eaton. (Link to Amazon at end of article) I’m just using the first 5 rounds of this pattern using the first 5 colours from Lipstick to Sage. After that I used my own method of squaring the circle.
I use UK terms.
Round 6: With Storm Blue start in a corner with 4 chains, 1 double treble, 2 chains, 2 double trebles in the top of a cluster. Then in the next space 2 trebles. In the next space 2 half trebles. In the next space 2 double crochet. In the next space 2 half trebles. In the next space 2 trebles. Then in the next corner 2 double trebles, 2 chains and 2 double trebles. Continue all the way round and join with a slip stitch.
Round 7: With Denim start in any corner with 3 chains, 2 trebles, 2 chains and 3 trebles. Along each side 2 trebles in every space. 3 trebles, 2 chains and 3 trebles in each corner.
Round 8: With Grape start in any corner with 3 chains, 2 trebles, 2 chains and 3 trebles. To keep the stitch count I did 3 trebles in the first and last spaces on each side and 2 trebles in all the spaces in between. 3 trebles, 2 chains and 3 trebles in each corner.
Round 9: As round 8 but with Parma Violet.
Then join them all together with White using the Continuous join method (see my Youtube video here).
Then I just finished with a simple scalloped border. 1 round of double crochet (2 in each corner space). Then 7 trebles in a corner. Skip 1 stitch, double crochet in next stitch, skip 1 stitch, 5 double crochet in next stitch, repeat.
