I needed 80 squares.
1st round: chain 5 and join with a slip stitch. (Crochet over the tail so that you can tighten the hole later if necessary) Chain 3, 1 treble. Chain 1 and treble 2 together 7 times (yarn round hook, insert hook, yarn round hook, pull through, yarn round hook, pull through 1st 2 loops leaving 2 loops on hook. Repeat and then yarn over hook and pull through all loops). Chain 1 and slip stitch to top of 3 chains.
Then arrange circles ready for next round.
2nd round: Join yarn in any space. Chain 3, 1 treble and treble 2 together in this space. Chain 2 and treble 2 together twice in each of the remaining 7 spaces. Chain 2 and slip stitch to top of 3 chains.
Again arrange circles for next round.
3rd round: Join yarn in any space. 3 chains and 2 trebles in this space. 3 half trebles in next space. 3 trebles, 2 chains and 3 trebles in next space for corner. Repeat all the way to the corner where you started, 3 trebles and then 1 half treble into top of 3 chains.
Then arrange all the squares as you want them to be in your blanket.
I joined with the continuous join (see my Youtube video here).
Then 1 round of treble clusters (like in a granny square) then one round of trebles – 1 in every treble below. And finally a round of scallops.
